There has been increased attention to the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology Annual Congress after more than 8,000 people took part in last year’s con- gress in Berlin. I anxiously await the final attendance numbers for this year’s congress scheduled for June 5-8 in Istanbul — the crossroads of Asia and Europe, which alone should attract colleagues from around the world. In addition to the mystical and historic destination, there are greater demands for lifelong learning in our profession today. This is a main reason why orthopaedic surgeons will travel next month to Istanbul to learn about advances in musculoskeletal medicine.
For decades, the congresses of the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFORT) have met the needs of orthopaedic surgeons in Europe who have sought to learn more about current treatments and surgical techniques. The organization has received excellent feedback about its educational offerings, particularly after it was decided in 2008 to hold them annually. Since then, the level of education and content has continually improved.
