In memoriam of Professor Freddie Fu
It was with great sadness that the EFORT Board and entire community learned of the sad passing of Professor Freddie Fu on 24 September 2021.
Professor Fu, David Silver Professor and Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, USA, was one of the most prominent figures in sports medicine, physical therapy and mechanical engineering for sports.
Throughout his entire career, one of Professor Fu’s main goals always was to prove that orthopaedics is multidisciplinary and that orthopaedic surgeons should rely on nature to shape surgery rather than operating to reshape nature. His enormous contributions to encourage innovations and develop new technologies have undoubtedly influenced the Orthopaedic Community worldwide and will forever be part of Orthopaedic surgery.
As EFORT, we did have the privilege and were proud to welcome Professor Fu during the Michael Freeman Honorary Lecture on Tuesday 29 June 2021 as part of the Opening Première of the Virtual EFORT Congress 2021. He was awarded EFORT Honorary Member.
