CORE-MD

The Final Conference:

highlighting the key challenges still ahead

On 15 March 2024, the CORE-MD consortium organised its Final Conference in Brussels, hosted by the European Society of Cardiology in collaboration with EFORT and Biomedical Alliance in Europe

Gathering a large number of partners involved in CORE-MD, the event also attracted various stakeholders to discuss the challenges of the implementation of the Medical Device Regulation.

It brought together key players in the field of medical devices such as physicians, patients, researchers, manufacturers and regulators.

The programme was designed in four sessions covering various aspects of the challenge of the implementation of the medical device regulation:

  • The first session addressed the issue of the European Regulatory system for medical devices. Chaired by Prof. Franz Weidinger from ESC and Ass. Prof. Per Kjærsgaard-Andersen from EFORT, this session offered various viewpoints on the regulatory system.
  • The second session presented the main results of the CORE-MD projects after three years of intense activity.
  • The third session focused on science-based regulatory policy for medical devices.
  • The final session aimed at discussing the priorities to foster regulatory convergences.

Prof. Dr. Nelissen (EFORT Secretary General) and Ass. Prof. Per Kjærsgaard-Andersen (Chair of EFORT EU Affairs Committee) participated in this Final Conference on behalf of EFORT.

CORE-MD is a European Union Horizon 2020 project. It reviews methods for evaluating high-risk medical devices in order to translate expert evidence into advice for EU regulators and to recommend an appropriate balance between innovation, safety , and clinical effectiveness.
