From Copenhagen you go directly to the town of Roskilde – the capital of Denmark
in ancient times. Here you visit the very impressive Romanesque cathedral from
the 12th century, where Danish kings and queens have been buried since Pagan
times. Next stop is the Viking Ship Museum located in the Vikings‘ natural harbour
at Roskilde fjord. Here you will be able to study five viking ships that were
sunk almost 1000 years ago to prevent the enemies of the town of Roskilde from
entering the fjord. The ships have now been carefully restored and are the most
important discovery ever made from the Viking period in Denmark.

Visit some of the important sights in Copenhagen in architectural or
design aspect.
Danish Design Center - The new Danish Design Centre building is drawn
by Professor Henning Larsen. The Henning Larsen drawing office was
chosen for the architectural responsibility via a contest in 1994,
and the Museum / Centre was inaugurated in the year 2000. In this
exciting new Danish Design Centre building, Denmark has a new, international
exhibition venue and meeting place for design.
Danish Architecture Center & canal area - On entering Copenhagen
port, it is evident that the harbour area has undergone enormous changes
in the last 25 years. Examples include the luxury Langelinie Houses
and the recently refurbished warehouses dating back to the 17th century,
one of which houses the Dansk Arkitektur Center.
The Black Diamond - On September 15th 1999 the Royal Library's extension
at Copenhagen’s harbour front - the Black Diamond - was inaugurated.
The construction of the Diamond had been going on since 1996 and fulfilled
an agelong dream of an extension of the Royal Library. Situated on
the waterfront the building covered with black granit stone reflects
the water and creates an immagine of a ‘black diamond’. In contrast
to the exterior, the inner space expresses openness and dissolves
the rigid and stringent elements. The large central foyer area is
encircled by wavelike balcony edges. Totally a remarkable building
for any kind of arrangement.
The hotel Radisson Blu Royal - Masterpiece of the famous Danish architect
Arne Jacobsen, the hotel has been entirely designed by him, from the
building, the furniture and the accessories. Finished in 1960, the
hotel still reflects the style of that period, known for its simplicity
and elegance.

This tour will give you a chance to admire North Sjælland, the preferred
setting of Danish kings and queens for centuries. The tour takes you
along the beautiful Danish Riviera, with beaches, summer cottages
and marinas, to the city of Elsinore and a visit to Kronborg Castle
– also known as Hamlet‘s Castle from the setting for Shakespeare‘s
famous play. The castle was built in 1420 on the shores of Øresund
to control the narrow strip of water that separates Denmark from Sweden.
You will enjoy the views from the castle ramparts, as well as tour
the chapel, courtyard and the medieval banqueting hall. Lunch will
be served before you drive through beautiful countryside to Fredensborg
Castle – the summer residence of the Royal Family. Here you will have
a short photo stop before you continue to the city of Hilleroed, where
you visit Frederiksborg Castle, which was built in the 17th century
and has now been turned into a national historical museum. This pearl
of history, built in the magnificent Dutch Renaissance style with
a touch of baroque, houses treasures of art, tapestry, porcelain,
silver, furniture, etc. You return to Copenhagen in the late afternoon.

The day is devoted to art and literature, starting
with the world-famous Louisiana art museum. Some people come because
of the international calibre of the special exhibitions, some come
to see the permanent collection of art, while others still visit Louisiana
because of its magnificent natural surroundings. Louisiana is firmly
established as the country‘s most visited and most internationally
renowned museum. The permanent exhibition comprises a good deal of
international art from the inter-war years, but Louisiana‘s strength
lies in its post-war art – major works by such names as Arp, Francis
Bacon, Calder, Dubuffet, Max Ernst, Sam Francis, Giacometti, Kiefer,
Henry Moore, Picasso, Rauschenberg and Warhol. Our journey continues
to the Danish home of one of Denmark‘s most famous writers, Karen
Blixen, which has been transformed into a museum. Price:
EUR 130 per
